LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — One man is dead after a shooting at a west Louisville bar late Saturday night.

The shooting happened at Club Cedar just before midnight Saturday, Oct. 25 in Louisville's Russell neighborhood. WDRB spoke with a woman who said she was just feet away from the man who was shot.

Ashley Green-Winters was at Club Cedar that night. She said they were under the tents at the back of the club when the shooting happened.

"It was pretty scary, we didn't know who got hit, if we got hit, you know we are checking ourselves and then all of a sudden we see him lying there," Green-Winters said.

Louisville Metro Alcoholic Beverage Control has issued an emergency suspension order for Club Cedar following the shooting.

LMABC issued this statement:

"Louisville Metro Alcoholic Beverage Control has issued an Emergency Suspension Order for Club Cedar following a shooting that occurred at the establishment last night. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family during this difficult time. The incident remains under investigation in coordination with LMPD.

Metro ABC will continue to act swiftly when public safety is at risk and work collaboratively under Mayor Greenberg’s Safe Louisville Plan to address businesses and conditions that endanger the safety of our community."

For Green-Winters, she doesn't blame the venue but the security at the club.

"It's not the club, I think it's more so who's letting that gun get through. This is your job to be security, to secure the place so it's really disappointing to know that that happened, and the gun was able to get in," Green-Winters said.

Louisville Metro Police said when officers responded to the scene, they found a man in his 40s in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to the head. Green-Winters said the man was shot in the tent area attached to the back of the bar.

WDRB has reached out to LMPD to confirm that's where the shooting happened.

This is not the first shooting at Club Cedar. Last November, a man was shot and killed and another man was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. 60-year-old Kevin Powell was arrested and charged with murder and assault for the November shooting.

In addition, last week, on Oct. 18, two women were hospitalized after a double shooting at another west Louisville bar, Double Deuce. LMABC also issued an Emergency Suspension Order for Double Deuce following the shooting.

Green-Winters said after Saturday night's shooting at Club Cedar, she wanted to learn CPR for if she's ever in that situation again.

"It's not going to deter me from going out, it's just going to put me on higher alert, but now I know how to save a life if it does happen again," Green-Winters said.

She said she just wants the violence to stop.

"Put the guns down, we have to. We have to stop letting our anger make us make a life altering decision," Green-Winters said.

Green-Winters tells us she spoke with police at the scene and said she didn't see the man who fired the shot.

There are no known suspects at this time. Anyone with information is asked to make an anonymous call to LMPD's Crime Tip Line at 502-574-LMPD (5673). Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the department's Crime Tip Portal by clicking here.
