LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Metro Police released the name Tuesday of the officer who the department said shot a burglary suspect early Sunday morning downtown.
During a news conference early Sunday morning, Louisville Metro Police Assistant Chief Brian Kuriger said officers responded to a report of a break-in at 12:03 a.m. at 5th and York streets.
Kuriger said two suspects tried to run away from police. One was immediately taken into custody, but the other continued to run.
Kuriger said officers saw the suspect had a gun and ordered them multiple times to drop it. One officer fired multiple times, hitting the suspect.
LMPD said Tuesday that Lt. Brandon Hogan fired the shots. He's a 4th Division lieutenant who's been with LMPD since June 2008.
The victim was taken to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Kuriger said. The suspect's gun was recovered from the scene.
"The suspect was an armed individual who was in the act of burglarizing residences," Kuriger said.
According the LMPD's Critical Incident Timeline, police body camera video will be released within 10 business days.
