FREE DENTAL CARE FOR UNINSURED

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A dental office in Louisville provided free care to children and their families with little to no insurance Sunday.

Ruby Dental & Braces hosted the 10th annual Sharing Smiles Day. Families in need of dental exams and care could visit the dental practice on Bardstown Road.

The event was open to children up to age 18 and adults who don't have Medicaid or other forms of dental insurance.

Nisha Hall, the practice manager for Ruby Dental & Braces, said more than 40 people registered.

"It makes me feel rewarded," Hall said. "Our health starts with our mouth, it helps with confidence, livelihood, it helps people get jobs and live better lives," Hall said.

Benevis, a dental health care and orthodontics delivery organization, holds the event nationally each year.

Hall said the event Sunday was the largest the local dental practice has had in its decade of participation.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports untreated cavities were almost three times more common in children aged 2 to 5 years old living in low-income compared to higher income households.
