LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Statistically, more people experience a heart attack during the holidays, something doctors attribute to people eating and drinking whatever they want and the impact the winter has on people's bodies.

If you're not in great shape but spend an hour shoveling snow, it can trigger heart issues that may have been hiding before.

"A lot of us are deconditioned," said Mohammad F. Mathbout, an interventional cardiologist at the Norton Heart & Vascular Institute in Louisville. "So whenever you are doing all this very strenuous exercise, your heart rate goes up, your blood pressure goes up, and our bodies are not used to it. So events happen."

The signs that you're having a heart attack include chest pain, discomfort in one or both arms, shortness of breath and nausea.
