LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville Metro Government has announced the city's first artificial intelligence pilot project.
The AI pilot project, the city's effort to improve city services and make government more responsive to residents and business, has been awarded to Govstream.ai, a company that builds transparent and explainable AI.
The company will focus on modernizing and improving the city's permitting process, which serves people across the Louisville Metro area who are seeking to remodel or build new structures.
The current permitting process, according to a news release, can be unpredictable and cause delays, leading to frustration from people needing to complete projects on time and on budget.
Officials said using AI will speed up the permitting process.
"AI is just, we're just in the infancy of it, we need to mature that, and I think it's something that becomes embedded in everything that we do," Pamela McKnight, chief AI officer, said during a news conference Wednesday.
The pilot project is underway, and findings and recommendations will be shared publicly once the project is completed in the spring.
