LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man turned some Kentucky Lottery scratch-off wins into $50,000.
He said a spontaneous change brought the big win.
The man spends $20-$50 a week on tickets and always starts with the bonus section, then reveals the prize amount at the bottom.
But due to preparing for a vacation, he did things differently this time.
"I was doing like 15 other things, getting ready for vacation,” he said. “I just started scratching from the first number.”
He uncovered an "Auto" symbol and thought he won $50 but continued scratching when he read it further. There were extra zeroes that showed it being a $50,000 win.
“I won $20, rolled it over, then won $50, and rolled that into a $50 ticket that paid out $75," he said. "I cashed in $50 for another ticket and took the rest in cash.”
The man then chose the "$5,000,000 Fortune" ticket after winning $200 on it before.
The winning ticket was sold at Thornton's at the corner of Shelbyville Road and Beckley Station Road in east Louisville.
He received a check for $36,000 after taxes and plans to use it to pay off his car and put toward his children's college funds.
This is the largest payout for the "$5,000,000 Fortune" so far.
