LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro government is now footing the bill for Meals on Wheels deliveries for the city's seniors because of the ongoing government shutdown.
Mayor Craig Greenberg made the announcement Monday as he pitched in to deliver some of the meals.
One of his stops was to Miss Leavelle. Greenberg said she is one of 900 Louisville seniors who were at risk of losing meal delivery services because of cuts associated with the government shutdown. Those programs are federally-funded through the state.
Leavelle said it's an important lifeline for her and many others who rely on the meals.
Greenberg also denounced previous federal cuts to food programs, saying Louisville won't wait to see if someone else in Washington, D.C. will help its citizens.
Local government works for you.

Due to federal funding cuts nearly 900 seniors here were set to lose meal delivery services. That’s not acceptable, so I’ve found funding to keep the meals coming so people like Kim don’t have to worry about where their next meal will come from. pic.twitter.com/UBygzhOWrM
