LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Some Louisvillians are working to form a new nonprofit aimed at stopping gun violence.

It's called Less is More and stands for less gun violence and more love. Krista Gwynn, who lost a son to gun violence and also has a daughter who was injured in a shooting, said this grew from a recent essay contest where people focused on ways to reduce gun violence.

"We are focusing on working with the youth through social media," Gwynn said. "Trying to get the word out about gun violence, put the guns down. If you need help, if you need somebody to talk to because these children, nowadays, they live on their social media platform."

Gwynn said there are monthly meetings and the next one is June 13 and the Crescent Hill Library at 7 p.m. She said teens and young adults are welcome.

"What we need is young people, young adults, to come meet as a peer group to figure out what kind of statement do we want to put out there? What do you want to hear? What should we say to y'all? So we need some young people to come meet with us and to sit down with us through a group study on how to reach them," she said.

Gwynn said those who are part of organizing the nonprofit are some of the people who worked to create the essay contest last year as well as the two individuals who won the contest.

Gwynn said Friday, June 7 will mark three years since her daughter was injured in a shooting. It's also the same day Moms Demand Action is hosting an event at 7:30 p.m. at the base of the Big Four Bridge as the bridge will be turned orange in honor of survivors of gun violence.
