Louisville officer honored for saving man in distress on overpass

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Council members recognized the heroic efforts of Summer Hendricks, a Louisville Metro Department of Corrections officer, Thursday night.

Hendricks was heading home from work when she saw a man sitting on an overpass and felt something wasn’t right.

She pulled over, called 911 and went to check on him.

When she got closer, she realized the man was in distress. Hendricks stayed with him, talking until he calmed down and finally agreed to walk away from the edge.

“I’m thinking that’s a very dangerous spot to sit,” Hendricks said.

“When I got closer, I saw the disarray and the tears, and I knew it was a lot more than that. So I said a little prayer and went and talked to him. I was really grateful that he wanted to talk to me.”
