LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Six years ago, Future Healers started with just 25 children.
Now, nearly 1,500 young people have participated in the Louisville program, which gives children and teens opportunities to explore careers in health care while connecting with mentors and professionals.
The Future Healers Kiddos Medical Program is beginning its sixth year, with programming planned through June 2027.
Through the program, children meet doctors, medical students and other health care professionals while learning about careers ranging from nursing and surgery to science and research.
Future Healers was created through a partnership between 2X Game Changers, the University of Louisville School of Medicine, the UofL Department of Surgery and the J. David Richardson Trauma Center.
The Louisville program has also expanded its partnerships over the years, including collaborations with Jefferson County Public Schools, the Louisville Zoo and the Chestnut Street YMCA.
For its sixth year, 2X Game Changers is relaunching an expanded version of its "Future Healers Surgical Kiddos" video, highlighting the program's beginnings and the young people who have taken part.
Organizers said Future Healers is focused on giving young people access to mentors, education and opportunities that can help shape their futures while promoting healing and violence prevention.
