LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man was arrested on federal gun charges after an explosion caused a house fire Sunday morning in Lexington.
According to the Lexington Police Department, fire crews responded to a house fire around 7:45 a.m. in the 700 block of Orlean Circle.
Police said one person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Lexington Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Unit, Lexington Fire Department arson investigators, the FBI and the ATF are investigating the cause of the fire.
According to court documents, Jonathan Huff is facing federal charges in connection with the investigation.
Court documents state Huff was one of the residents of the house that caught fire. Witnesses told police two explosions were heard, and Huff was seen fleeing from the home with a black bag while saying, "I gotta go, I gotta go."
Huff was taken to the hospital with severe burns to his hands and back. In an interview with police, Huff admitted to being in possession of a Glock pistol and an AR-style rifle at the time.
According to court documents, Huff was previously convicted of felony methamphetamine possession in Indiana in 2021. This means he is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Huff has not been charged in connection with the fire or explosion.
