LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One of the family members critically injured in a Jeffersonville home explosion last month has died.
A friend of the family said Patrick Timmy Grimes passed away due to medical complications.
Grimes was one of five people who were hospitalized in the July 30 explosion on Washington Way. Two family members remain hospitalized, while two others have been released. Their conditions are not known at this time.
The Jeffersonville Police Department said last week that the investigation into the explosion led to excess gas that originated from inside the home.
When police arrived in the neighborhood around 11:40 p.m. that night, they found five people in the front yard who were all injured from the blast. The house was engulfed in flames, when the Jeffersonville Fire Department arrived to put it out. EMS began treating the victims.
Two people were taken to a nearby hospital by helicopter, while the other three were taken in an ambulance. Alicia Denson, a friend of the family who lived in the home, said they were all inside at the time of the explosion.
