LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man died Thursday after crashing his car into a tree, according to Louisville Metro Police. 

Aaron Ellis, a spokesman for LMPD, said officers responded to a car crash just before 1 p.m. in the area of Dr. W. J. Hodge Street near Howard Street. That's in the California neighborhood.

Police said a man, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was traveling north on Dr. W. J. Hodge Street and for an unknown reason lost control and hit a tree.

The victim was taken to UofL Hospital where he later died. No other vehicles were involved.

LMPD's Traffic Unit is investigating.
