LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An eastern Kentucky man won the largest online play prize in Kentucky Lottery history.
This is the first time a Kentucky player has won the Mega Money Jackpot, which is linked to a progressive jackpot pool funded by multiple states.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, told officials he pulled up the Kentucky Lottery app before a doctor's appointment and wagered $5 on the Jackpot Spectacular Instant Play game.
He won the $859,001.91 Mega Money Jackpot.
“Something was telling me to jump on and play,” he said.
He waited until his son and wife woke up to tell them. His son didn't believe him at first and kept saying he was lying and woke him up for nothing until he was sent a picture.
The man went to the lottery headquarters and claimed his check for $618,481.37 after taxes.
"I was crying, laughing," he said. "I just kept thanking God, blessing me the way he did."
After being handed the check, he started getting emotional.
"This made a grown man cry," he said.
The man plans to pay off his son and daughter-in-law's house. He also wants to invest and donate some to charity.
