LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Nicholasville man got in the holiday spirit thanks to the Kentucky Lottery.
The man, who asked to remain anonymous, won $50,000 on a Kentucky Lottery Nutcracker Cash Scratch-off ticket. He purchased the $5 ticket on Nov. 22 at the Murphy USA gas station near Walmart in Nicholasville.
The Jessamine County man scratched off the ticket, which revealed 10 wreath symbols. That indicated the $2,500 prize is doubled.
"I scratched off the symbol and I scratched underneath, and it was like $2,500 and I got excited," he said to lottery officials. "I just kept seeing $2,500s!"
He said his heart dropped.
He then called his mom to tell her the news.
"He called me, and I was like, 'quit lying,'" she said.
The man doesn't play the Kentucky Lottery often, so his mother called it beginner's luck.
"I’m just ready to get the check," he said.
He received a check for $36,000, after taxes. He plans to pay bills, invest and will give some money to his mom.
Murphy USA will receive $500 for selling the winning ticket.
