LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Bullitt County, Kentucky, couple got a surprise when a change of plans turned out to be profitable.
The couple originally planned to go to the lake over Labor Day weekend to celebrate but the husband said in a news release he just wanted to watch football, so the couple decided to go home instead.
On the way home, the couple stopped at the Kroger on Mud Lane in Louisville to purchase some Kentucky Lottery Scratch-offs. The woman knew exactly which ones she wanted — one 500X Scratch-off and one Millionaire Club Scratch-off.
The couple said they waited until they got home to scratch the tickets.
“He wanted to scratch the 500X ticket, so I just let him have it,” the woman said in the release.
The woman scratched off the other ticket, the Millionaire Club ticket.
“I didn’t scratch the prizes 'til the end,” she said. “When I saw the matching numbers, I said, ‘we got a big ticket!’ I knew we had at least won $1,000”.
The woman scratched the prizes, and just couldn't believe they had won that much money.
The winning scratch-off had a $10,000 prize in the bonus area and four 500X times $20 spots to win the game's second prize of $50,000.
The couple took home $36,000 after taxes. They said they plan to pay some bills and save the rest. Kroger will get $500 for selling the winning ticket.
