Winner comes forward to claim $10 million Powerball Double Play prize on ticket sold in Oldham County

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Lottery confirmed Thursday that a lucky winner has come forward to claim a $10 million Powerball Double Play prize.

The Kentucky resident, who wanted to stay anonymous, won the June 24 drawing after purchasing a ticket at Circle K No. 3305 at 2900 Highway 22 in Crestwood.

The winner said he or she is a creature of habit and bought the tickets before work. The machine gave the option to add the Double Play feature, and the winner thought "I think I'll try," lottery officials said in a news release Thursday.

The Kentucky Lottery said the winning ticket matched all five white balls and the Powerball in the second Double Play drawing, winning the top tier Double Play prize of $10 million. The Double Play drawing takes place immediately after the Powerball drawing.

Double Play is an add-on option to the game’s base $2 wager. For an additional $1 wager, players have the same numbers entered in both drawings.

The Lottery said this was Kentucky's first top tier Powerball Double Play win since the feature was introduced in the state in late 2023.

Monday night’s winning Powerball Double Play numbers were 1 – 31 – 33 – 54 – 60 Powerball 26.

"Really, I can't believe this," the winner told lottery officials. "I sat there for about 10 minutes looking at the numbers and looking at my ticket and it was right. I was overwhelmed and excited. Now I can retire!"

The winner took home $7.2 million after taxes.

Kentucky jackpot winners

According to the Kentucky Lottery website, there hasn't been a big jackpot collected in Kentucky since there were two in 2010.

In January 2010, a Georgetown couple, Rob and Tuesday Anderson, won after a clerk at the Pro Stop Marathon incorrectly printed a Powerball ticket for Rob on Christmas Eve 2009. The mistake ticket ended up hitting the game’s $128.6 million jackpot.

In December 2010, Knott County native and Louisville resident Muncie Meade won the Powerball worth $19.12 million.
