LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Hardin County man picked the right time to play the Kentucky Lottery and won $100,000.
The man from Vine Grove, who asked to remain anonymous, was quietly sitting in his room on May 17 when he decided to play the Kentucky Lottery's Instant Play game. He wagered $20 on Multiplier Vaults and won seconds later.
"I was up to like $1,000 in my account and thought, I should probably just cash out but decided to play one more time," he said to Kentucky Lottery officials. "I couldn't keep up with the screen but knew this was going to be a good one and then it stopped at $100,000."
He said he was shocked with the one in a million hit. The man immediately called his wife and told her to come home early.
"I don’t know if she believed me," he said. "I had to send her a screenshot."
The next week, he received a check for $72,000 after taxes. He told lottery officials he will pay off debt with the winnings.
"This is really going to go a long way to knocking out our debts and will move us ahead of schedule," he said.
