LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Former University of Louisville basketball player Wade Houston, his wife, Alice Houston and daughter, Lynn Houston Moore, were sued by the mother of a teenage girl who was sexually assaulted by Clarence Moore.
Moore pleaded guilty in December 2024 to engaging in sexual misconduct with a 17-year-old minor between November 2022 and January 2023. He was sentenced in March 2025 to serve seven years in prison on the 11 charges of rape, sodomy and sexual abuse of a juvenile.
The lawsuit filed March 5, alleges Houston and his family "knew or should have known of prior allegations against Moore."
According to the lawsuit, Moore coached the victim at Christian Academy of Louisville when he was a coach and then privately after he left the school. The abuse occurred both at Legacy Training Academy and at the Houston family residence, the lawsuit claims.
Wade and Alice Houston are the mother and father-in-law of Moore, who, along iwht his wife, Lynn, lived with Wade and Alice Houston.
"Clarence Moore abused his position of authority to sexually assault a child who trusted him," Julie P. Anderson, of Thomas Law Offices, said in a news release. "Other adults knew about prior allegations and ignored the warning signs. When you suspect a child is being abused, you have a legal and moral duty to act. They did not."
The lawsuit states the Houston family permitted Moore to continue having access to minors despite being aware of prior allegations.
According to the lawsuit, the Wade family held a gathering at their Prospect home in June 2023 with minors present, and Moore made inappropriate advances toward a minor.
On June 20, 2023, Oldham County Police received a report of the sexual assault of a 17-year-old in the 9000 block of Covered Bridge Road, according to law enforcement.
The assault, according to police, occurred June 18, 2023, at a home where Moore was also living at the time. During the investigation, Oldham County police detectives discovered additional crimes involving the same victim and Moore in Jefferson County.
The two agencies worked together on the case.
Christian Academy of Louisville officials said Moore hasn't coached at the school since the 2021-22 season, when he was an assistant.
Moore, who owned Legacy Training Academy and has worked as a basketball trainer in Louisville, also previously coached at Kentucky State University.
The lawsuit is seeking compensation, punitive damages for their "willful, wanton, reckless and grossly negligent conduct" and a jury trial.
