LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WAVE) — A Louisville man was arrested this weekend after police said he attacked the mother of his child and barricaded himself inside a home with their infant.
Rick Poore, 33, was arrested Saturday and charged with first-degree strangulation (domestic violence related), fourth-degree assault and intimidating a participant in the legal process.
According to court documents, Louisville Metro Police responded to a home in the 7000 block of Parkridge Parkway after receiving a report of an "unknown domestic situation."
Police said Poore and the victim got into an argument over where their 10-week-old daughter contracted COVID-19. During the argument, Poore allegedly slapped the woman in the face while they were on the back porch.
The victim went inside to feed their child and "attempt to ignore the confrontation" according to police. Poore then grabbed her several times, slapped her across the face again and punched her multiple times, the citation said.
Police said Poore then grabbed the victim by the neck and began strangling her. The victim told police she could not breathe for at least 10 to 15 seconds. She did not lose consciousness.
The victim then yelled for her two other children to call police, the citation said, but Poore ordered them to stay downstairs. Police said he then took the victim's phone and told her she was not allowed to call anyone.
The victim eventually escaped the home with her young daughter and ran into the front yard.
Police said Poore chased her outside, pushed her to the ground and began punching and dragging her across the concrete.
A neighbor intervened and allowed the victim and her children into her car before driving them away from the home.
The victim suffered several injuries, including a large wound on her shin and knee, a red mark on her neck and scratches on her body, according to police.
Officers later attempted to contact Poore, but police said he refused to cooperate and denied that any altercation occurred, and only "alluded to an argument."
Family members later told officers they were on FaceTime with Poore and that he was inside the home with his infant daughter.
LMPD's SWAT team was called to the scene. During the standoff, police said the victim told officers Poore was aware SWAT officers were outside.
According to court documents, Poore allegedly told family members over Facetime, "I'm going to make them kill me."
After hours of negotiations, police said Poore called an officer and claimed he had "just woken up" and wanted to know what was happening outside.
Poore was taken into custody shortly after. He was arraigned Monday morning, where Judge Katie King set a $50,000 bond.
Poore is due back in court Aug. 18.
