LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A bacon clubhouse sandwich meant a little more than a meal on Thursday.

That's because the McDonald's on Lower Brownsboro Road helped kick off the 10th annual Service for Peace Backpack Angel program. The store's owners donated $1 for every bacon clubhouse sandwich sold until 8 p.m.

The Service for Peace Backpack Angel program provides backpacks and school supplies to local children in need.

"Service for Peace offers this program that they try to help over 2,000 kids every year with backpacks for back to school, and we really wanted to be able to get our footprint in the door, saying we're really ambassadors of children's education as well," said Brittney Barnett, the co-owner of the Brownsboro Road McDonald's.

In addition to giving to a good cause, customers who bought the Bacon Clubhouse sandwiches had an opportunity to win a variety of prizes.

The owners of the McDonald's on Hubbards Lane is planning a similar event on June 19.
