LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 27-year-old man was arrested for wanton endangerment of a police officer after he hit an LMPD cruiser with officers inside.

According to an arrest citation, Apele Raphael was driving under the influence on Dec. 19 when he ran into the back of a marked LMPD car that had its emergency lights on. The cruiser was in the process of having another vehicle checked and towed when the collision happened.

Raphael was going 17 miles per hour over the speed limit. Officers found an opened beer inside Raphael's car and said Raphael smelled of alcohol.

The officers inside the vehicle were taken to the hospital for a broken nose, concussion, and bruising, according to the citation.

Raphael faces a list of charges including wanton endangerment of a police officer, DUI and speeding. He is due in court on Wednesday.
