LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- While having a warm bed to sleep in can often be something that's taken for granted, now more children in southern Indiana have their own beds.

Metro United Way partnered with southern Indiana schools for the eighth annual Build-A-Bed initiative at Prosser Career Education Center Saturday. Metro United Way staff and volunteers provided the bed frames, mattresses, sheets, pillows, blankets and laundry bags.

They put together 175 beds and hygiene kits for children in need.

"We wanted to make sure every child in our community has the opportunity to thrive, making sure they have the opportunity to have a good night sleep is part of that equation and also making sure they are prepared to show up and be successful in their classroom is part of that equation," said Pam Ottesbach with Metro United Way.

Over the last eight years, more than 1,100 beds have been made thanks to the event.
