LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jefferson County Clerk's Office will close at all of its locations around Louisville on Jan. 1, 2024.

All locations not related to motor vehicle services like Legal Deed Room, Elections Center and Professional Licenses departments will reopen Jan. 2. But due to a statewide update, motor vehicle services won't be available at the start of the new year.

The Commonwealth Office of Technology and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will shut down the current registration system and change to a new one called Kentucky Automated Vehicle Information System. During the transition, county clerk offices will be unable to issue decals, plates, disabled parking permits, registrations or transfers until mid-January.

Jefferson County Clerk's Office motor vehicle branches will reopen once the new KAVIS system is online.

According to a news release, Sheriff's Auto Inspections and property tax drop off payments will not be available during the closure. Customers needed a Sheriff's Auto Inspection should go to 810 W. Market Street between 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on weekdays starting Jan. 2.

People wanting to drop off property tax payments can visit the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at the Fiscal Court Building located at 531 Court Place. Because of the closure to motor vehicle branches, the sheriff's office extended the gross period due date deadline to Jan. 8 for drop box payments.
