Enes Kanter Freedom ejected from Fever-Sky game after he was confronted by Sky's Cloud
CHICAGO (AP) — Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom has been ejected from the Fever-Sky WNBA game after Sky guard Natasha Cloud yelled and pointed in his direction late in the third quarter. Freedom was sitting along the baseline. He had on a black shirt that read “WOMAN noun. adult human female.” The Fever called for a timeout after Cloud scored inside with 1:22 left in the third. Cloud then went to confront Kanter, who held his arms and took one step on the court. Security and a handful of Sky players stepped in between the two before the dispute escalated.
Caitlin Clark scores 37 points as the Fever beat the Sky 113-90
CHICAGO (AP) — Caitlin Clark scored 37 points, Kelsey Mitchell added 30 and the Indiana Fever pulled away from the Chicago Sky for a 113-90 victory on Sunday night. Clark made a career-high eight of Indiana’s franchise record 18 3-pointers. She also had 10 assists. The Fever closed out a 3-2 trip with their third game in four nights. They had dropped two in a row. Natasha Cloud had 16 points and seven assists for Chicago, which had won three in a row. Azura Stevens added 14 points and eight rebounds. The Sky were eliminated from the playoff race with the loss and a win by Washington on Sunday night. Indiana played without center Aliyah Boston, who was sidelined by a right leg injury. Boston had 22 points and six assists in Saturday’s 109-102 loss at New York.
Wyndham Clark holds off McIlroy and Cantlay to capture BMW Championship for 3rd win this year
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Wyndham Clark had reason to feel this was similar to the U.S. Open. He lost a big lead and the crowd was pulling for the other guy, in this case Rory McIlroy. Clark got the same result at the BMW Championship. He didn't make a birdie until finishing with three in a row for a 70 at Bellerive and a three-shot victory over Patrick Cantlay. Clark now has three wins this year including a major. It was a big day for Cantlay, too. His runner-up finish after three straight birdies to end allows him to advance to the Tour Championship.
Scheffler says he played BMW Championship with hand, foot and mouth disease
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Scottie Scheffler says he was sick at the BMW Championship and he shared just how bad it was. After closing with a 68, Scheffler says he had hand, foot and mouth disease. That causes blisters on his throat, his hands and his feet. He says he was able to walk OK, but he had trouble gripping the club all week. Scheffler had 13 bogeys, which is unusual for him. He hit only 65% of his greens. He says he probably should have withdrawn considering nothing was at stake this week in terms of his position in the FedEx Cup.
Ryan Blaney wins second consecutive NASCAR Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway
LOUDON, N.H. (AP) — Ryan Blaney overcame a major fumble by his pit crew and charged from 17th to first for his second consecutive NASCAR Cup Series win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The Team Penske driver led a race-high 115 of 301 laps Sunday and fended off Bubba Wallace by 0.586 seconds. Josh Berry, who is trying to find a ride for the 2027 season, finished a season-best third, the fourth consecutive top 10 for the Wood Brothers Racing driver. The top five was rounded out by Christopher Bell and Ryan Preece, who kept his Chase hopes alive with his first top five this year.
Kirkwood gives the Freedom 250 an American winner on the streets of downtown Washington
WASHINGTON (AP) — Kyle Kirkwood gave the Freedom 250 an American winner, racing to his second victory of the IndyCar season on the streets of downtown Washington in a dominant performance. In a race set up as part of the country’s 250th birthday celebration, President Donald Trump gave drivers the green flag at the start and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser served as grand marshal. Kirkwood crossed the finish line in front of the U.S. Capitol 3.09 seconds ahead of Christian Lundgaard. Kirkwood led for 128 of a possible 147 laps. Pole winner Alex Palou, who had a chance to clinch the series title, finished 20th.
The 49ers acquire LB Deion Jones from the Saints for RB Zamir White, AP source says
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers added depth at linebacker by acquiring Deion Jones in a trade with the New Orleans for running back Zamir White, a person familiar with the trade told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade hadn’t been announced. The trade came one week before teams are required to cut down their rosters from 90 players to 53 for the start of the season with both teams adding depth this week for players who weren’t expected to make the roster.
Nordic soccer associations have 'lost confidence' in FIFA boss Infantino
STOCKHOLM (AP) — Six Nordic national soccer associations have piled more pressure on embattled FIFA president Gianni Infantino by saying they had “lost confidence” in his leadership. The associations from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland and the Faeroe Islands issued a joint statement Sunday to say they “view the organization’s governance and decision-making at the highest level with great concern.” They said they stand united with European soccer governing body UEFA and support the measures it has already proposed. Infantino faces pressure to resign after his plans to sell future World Cup profits to private investors triggered a backlash and criticism from UEFA, CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation.
Gauff beats Pegula for 2nd Cincinnati Open title; France's Fils beats American Tiafoe in men's final
MASON, Ohio (AP) — Coco Gauff defeated fellow American Jessica Pegula, 6-2, 6-4, to capture her second women’s Cincinnati Open title on Sunday, and Arthur Fils of France defeated American Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 in the men’s final for his first Masters 1000 title. The last time two American women played in the Cincinnati final was in 1970, when Rosie Casals beat Nancy Richey. Gauff, who won the 2023 title beating Karolina Muchova, stormed out to a 5-0 lead in the first set on Sunday before winning 6-2. Pegula battled back to within 5-4 in the second before Gauff closed out the win. Gauff won five of six break points. The Fils-Tiafoe match was the first time two Black players have met in an ATP Masters 1000 final.
Rahm, LIV players face uncertain future after season finale at Indy
WESTFIELD, Ind. (AP) — Jon Rahm finished the LIV Golf season Sunday in style — claiming his third straight season points title and his second team crown in a row at the revised season finale in suburban Indianapolis. Now the 31-year-old Spaniard and the other full-time tour players will wait to see what happens to LIV in 2027. Rahm closed with a 7-under 63 for his second straight runner-up finish in Indy. He ended up a stroke behind 22-year-old Michael La Sasso, the 2025 NCAA individual champ at Mississippi. La Sasso finished with a 65 to get to 18 under.
