LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Louisville residents could soon have to pay a higher fine for having a sign on public property.
Starting in December, companies will receive official notices of violation as part of a new Illegal Street Signs Ordinance passed by Metro Council. If signs are not removed, the notices will be followed up by a citation. The minimum fine is $50, but the maximum fine is $500 for repeat offenders.
The fine applies to individuals and businesses. Signs have always been illegal on public property, and the new ordinance allows for stronger enforcement to help clean up the city.
"I am confident that the work we put into this ordinance will help serve the community with the reduction of unnecessary and dangerous clutter," said Councilperson Scott Reed, R-District 16. "This ordinance will assist both drivers and pedestrians in traveling safer and we appreciate your assistance with helping us to make the city safer."
The ordinance applies to every kind of sign, including garage sales, real estate and any political signs.
