LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in Louisville is raising money for new fields.

The goal is to raise $3 million to build two multipurpose sports fields, according to our partners at Louisville Business First, who spoke to President Sadiqa Reynolds.

The new fields at the facility on West Muhammad Ali Boulevard will replace an existing one — that is no longer safe — and accommodate various sports leagues.

Reynolds said the two fields will be adult-sized and can be split into four youth-sized fields. Right now, the center has a field in the middle of its outdoor track that's been used for soccer, flag football and lacrosse. But, Reynolds said, it's not graded for sports use and has been worn down from repeated use, making it unsafe for games.

The project also calls for lighting, fencing, nets, new sports-grade turf and other sports equipment.

The hope is to raise the first $1 million needed for the project by the end of the year and break ground when half of the $3 million is secured.

Leaders hope to complete the project before next summer, pending fundraising efforts, if not sooner.
