LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Shots were fired early Wednesday morning inside a hospital room in St. Matthews.

Just before 6 a.m. at Baptist Health Louisville on Kresge Way, St. Matthews Police Chief Barry Wilkerson said a female patient in a wheelchair, identified as Mystic Rayne, brought a gun into the hospital, where she fired four shots inside a room.

She barricaded herself in the room, where police then called in hostage negotiators and SWAT. It took SWAT officers about 30 minutes to get her to give up the weapon, Wilkerson said.

Wilkerson said Rayne was airlifted in and directly admitted to the floor. As a nurse entered the room, the first shot went off. Police said she didn't fire directly at someone.

Due to the number of initial phone calls, it was escalated to an active shooter. Once police arrived, it was narrowed down to an isolated event to one room, Wilkerson said. No injuries were reported.

Court documents state Rayne shot out her window and then tossed the gun onto a chair.

The woman is charged with wanton endangerment and criminal mischief. According to court documents, Rayne was cited and released.
