LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WAVE) — A mobile mammogram unit is bringing breast cancer screenings closer to the Louisville community, making it easier for people to prioritize preventive care.

Norton Healthcare partnered with the YMCA of Greater Louisville to offer mammogram screenings at the Southeast Family YMCA.

The mobile unit allows women to receive breast cancer screenings closer to where they live and work, helping reduce barriers like travel and scheduling challenges.

Women ages 40 and older are encouraged to receive annual mammograms as part of routine breast cancer screening.

One woman who visited the mobile clinic said she had been nervous about getting her first mammogram and had delayed scheduling the appointment. After seeing the Norton mobile unit at the YMCA, she decided it was time to get screened.

Health officials said bringing preventive care into neighborhoods can help encourage more people to stay up to date on important health screenings.

The mobile mammogram unit will be at the Northeast Family YMCA Oct. 2.
