LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- There's a new way for walkers, runners and cyclists to cross I-71.

People have been able to use the Oldham County pedestrian bridge since July 3, but the official opening was Monday morning. The bridge connects the two sides of Old LaGrange Road over the interstate. It's a key section in the plan to expand the walking and biking trail.

"We're going to extend Commerce Parkway and that will have a shared-use path," said Jim Urban of Oldham County Planning and Development Services. "In the next couple of years you'll be able to go from Crestwood to La Grange and back -- a total of a 9-mile trip."

Federal transportation dollars helped pay for the project.
