LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A new outdoor roller-skating court opened Wednesday in Louisville's Lannan Park in the Portland neighborhood.

The $117,000 investment combined two underutilized tennis courts at the park into a colorful spot for local skaters. Many skaters have wanted the space not only to skate, but to connect and host community events.

"For decades, roller-skating has brought people together across our city," Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said. "It's created friendships, it's built community and given generations of Louisvillians a place and a way to express themselves, to stay active and to have fun."

In a post on X, Greenberg called the space a "long time coming."

A free "Rollin' on the River" celebration is set for 6-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at the park. There will be a live DJ, food trucks, skating and activities for the community.
