LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentucky faith-based leaders are asking Governor Andy Beshear to veto a bill that will allow a Ten Commandments monument at the state Capitol.
In a letter to Beshear, 79 faith leaders, including Interfaith Alliance, the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, the Sikh Coalition, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and National Council of Jewish Women, said the monument "undercuts" religious equality and could be seen as a symbol of religious intolerance.
“The Capitol is the seat of our state government and should be welcoming to all Kentuckians, regardless of their faith,” the letter states.
The Kentucky House and Senate voted to pass House Joint Resolution 15, allowing a Ten Commandments monuments to be on Capitol grounds.
The resolution now awaits Beshear's signature.
