LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear is pledging his support for Democrat Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Harris announced her running mate on Tuesday after speculation on her vice presidential pick that had included Beshear as one of six possible names on the ticket.

Soon after the announcement, Beshear took to social media with a picture of him with Walz.

"It was an honor to be considered in this process, but Tim Walz is a great friend and a great choice. I fully support this new ticket and will work to elect Kamala Harris as our next President of the United States," he wrote on his personal Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Beshear followed up on social media later in the morning and said he is dedicated to being governor.

"Kentucky is in my DNA; I love my job and my family – and we are right where we’re supposed to be. Over the past several weeks we’ve seen Kentucky get such positive national attention for what we’ve accomplished by working together. I’m in this office this morning working hard to ensure we continue this incredible momentum as we build a better future for every single Kentuckian."

Harris and Walz will now launch into an aggressive, seven-state battleground tour that begins in Philadelphia on Tuesday and winds through Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada.

Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman also weighed in on social media and made a parallel to herself and Beshear to the Harris and Walz ticket. Harris and Beshear both served as attorney general in California and Kentucky respectively. And Coleman and Walz were social studies teachers and coaches.

In a written statement Tuesday, Andy Westberry, spokesperson for the Republican Party of Kentucky, called Walz a "liability to our nation's economy.

"With the Kentucky Democrats' echo chamber in the local press and social media coming to an end, it's no surprise Kamala Harris took a pass on Andy," Westberry said. "His years of controversy and lack of policy wins made choosing him a liability. Similarly, her choice of Tim Walz is a liability to our nation's economy. This is the most liberal presidential ticket in our Nation's history. With rising unemployment, inflation, and a tanking stock market, we must focus on defeating the Harris-Walz ticket in November and re-electing President Donald J. Trump."
