Oldham County native Andrew English announces run for Ky. Secretary of State

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Andrew English has announced he is entering the race to become Kentucky's next Secretary of State.

English announced his candidacy on Sunday morning.

He is a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserves and General Counsel for the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

He says he plans to focus on economic opportunities for the state. “I want to serve as your Secretary of State, because I know Kentucky’s potential is unmatched,” English said in a released statement. “I would be honored to put my beliefs in teamwork and public service to use for the people of Kentucky. As Secretary of State, I will focus on expanding economic opportunities, fighting voter fraud and advancing us all forward as Team Kentucky.”

English is a graduate of South Oldham High School. He earned Bachelor and Master degrees from Hofstra University.

He then worked for Commerce Secretary Jim Host before earning a law degree and Master's degree in public policy from the College of William and Mary.

English has served in the Navy for nearly a decade in several areas, including work as a defense attorney for members of the military.

After leaving active duty, English came home to Oldham County.
