LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Allison Ball will be swapping Frankfort offices.

After two terms as state treasurer, the Republican from Prestonsburg will succeed Mike Harmon as state auditor. Ball defeated Democrat Kim Reeder on Tuesday.

“I know how to do this job and do it right,” Ball said in her victory speech Tuesday night.

The state auditor has broad authority to investigate public spending. Ball has pledged to use that authority to keep a close watch on taxpayer dollars, such as continuing Harmon’s investigation of disaster relief spending.

Ball told Louisville Public Media that she also wants to ensure more information about state spending is online.

“I want to work at the local level, the city and county level. I want to have more school information available. As auditor, I’ll have more access to information that I did as treasurer,” she told LPM.
