LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- There will be several public meetings for feedback on changes coming to the 502 area code.
Kentucky Public Service Commission said the 502 area code will run out of numbers by the end of 2027. The North American Numbering Plan Administrator told the state that a new area code must be created.
“We want to hear from the telecommunications industry, from businesses that might be affected by the change, and from area code 502 residents,” Angie Hatton, PSC chair, said in a news release. “We seek public input so that we will have a full understanding of the issues before we make a decision that may have a significant impact on the economy and on people’s daily lives.”
According to a news release, new area codes can be established in one of two ways, either by geographic split or overlay.
