LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) —  Publix Super Markets Inc. plans to expand to Prospect, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.

The Florida-based grocery chain purchased Prospect Point Shopping Center at 9505 and 9549 U.S. 42 for $20 million, according to a deed filed this week with the Jefferson County Clerk's Office.

The shopping center, which is about 13.5 acres, is located near River Road. That's close to a Kroger grocery store and other retailers such as Evergreen Liquors, Domino's Pizza and Brownsboro Hardware & Paint.

Plans to redevelop the shopping center were first filed in 2024 by the previous owner, according to previous LBF reporting. Shortly after, Publix was identified as a potential buyer, and the project is now expected to move forward under their ownership.

The original redevelopment plans from the previous owner included adding a nearly 56,000 square-foot anchor grocery store as well as improvements to the entrances, exits and sidewalks.

It is unclear when work on the new Publix will begin or when the grocer hopes to open its doors.

The purchase marks another step in Publix's expansion in the Louisville region. The company opened multiple stores locally in recent years and has additional locations planned along Blankenbaker Parkway and in the space formerly occupied by Mid City Mall.

Publix did not yet respond to LBF's request for comment.
