LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- As the Louisville Water Company continues to replace aging pipes on River Road, drivers need to be prepared for updated detours this week.
The area known as Zone 2 (River Road between Blankenbaker Lane and Lime Kiln Lane) will be limited to local access only, according to a news release from the Louisville Water Company. There will be staggered barricades to provide residents with access where River Road intersects with Lime Kiln Lane and at Blankenbaker Lane.
The two-year construction project launched by the Louisville Water Company, will span from Zorn Avenue to Prospect.
The active construction zone remains in the same general area this week (July 21– July 27), according to the release. Crews will be working between Rockledge Drive and 4909 River Road (slightly west of Virginia Chance School). That work will impact the intersection of Glenview Avenue this week.
Glenview Avenue residents can Lime Kiln Lane or Woodside Road to avoid construction on River Road to get to their homes. Follow detour signs for current entry and exit access.

If the weather cooperates, the plan is to pave from Boxhill Lane to Blankenbaker Lane.
Officials said they're working to create a temporary road between the end of Mason Boulevard and Mayfair Avenue. This temporary road extension will provide access to River Road for residents of Transylvania Avenue and Mason Boulevard, once work begins on Transylvania Avenue in August.
The temporary gravel road will be made is expected to remain in place for about two months. The gravel will be removed and restored with seed and straw once the work is completed, according to the release.
