LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jefferson County Sheriff John Aubrey has been selected to receive the 2025 Ferris E. Lucas Sheriff of the Year award from the National Sheriffs' Association.
Aubrey is being recognized for his contributions to law enforcement during his 55-year career in public service. He is currently serving his seventh term as Jefferson County Sheriff.
That's according to a news release from the NSA announcing the honor.
The award was created in memory of Ferris E. Lucas, a past NSA president and executive director who completed 50 years of distinguished service and leadership in law enforcement, according to the release.
Aubrey is a retired Colonel from the U.S. Army and former Chief of Police with the Louisville Police Department, where he served for 28 years.
He is credited with strengthening community partnerships, enhancing law enforcement training, and expanding services like establishing additional vehicle inspection stations and creating specialized units like the River Patrol, Motorcycle Escort, and Honor Guard.
Aubrey will be recognized this summer at the NSA's annual conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
