LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office wants residents to be aware of scams as property tax season ramps up.
According to the sheriff's office, scammers are sending text messages to homeowners instructing them to click on a link and pay their monthly property tax bill.Â
The texts are a scam, deputies said. If you get one of these texts, do not click on the link or provide personal or financial information, and delete the message immediately.Â
In addition to the property tax scam, the sheriff's office said scammers are also telling residents they have missed court dates and are demanding "immediate payment to avoid arrest."
The sheriff's office said it will never call, text, or message residents on social media to request or collect payments of any kind.
"We strongly encourage the public to share this information with family, friends, and co-workers to help prevent additional victims, especially those who may be more vulnerable to fraudulent schemes," the sheriff's office said.Â
Those who have questions or concerns, or want to verify information, can call the sheriff's office at (502) 574-5471 or click here.
