LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Players have new courts to enjoy at Shawnee Park after a nearly $200,000 upgrade.

The project transformed the park's existing tennis courts into a new complex featuring one tennis court and four pickleball courts.

According to Louisville Metro and Mayor Craig Greenberg, it's the first park in west Louisville to offer multiple pickleball courts.

"We're expanding access to a sport that's bringing people together outside in our community," Greenberg said during Wednesday's ribbon-cutting.

The nearly $200,000 project is part of Louisville Metro's ongoing efforts to improve parks and recreational amenities across the city. The approved city budget includes $4.4 million for park maintenance.

Shawnee Park is one of Louisville's oldest and busiest parks. It was originally designed around 1900 and remains one of the city's signature parks along the Ohio River.
