LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Big changes are coming for those who use SNAP benefits.

Starting Friday, Oct. 1, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will permanently increase.

The United States Department of Agriculture said most SNAP households will see a modest boost, generally between $12 to $16 per person, per month.

This increase comes after the USDA's recent re-evaluation of the Thrifty Food Plan, which reflects the current cost of a healthy diet.

Thursday, Sept. 30, the pandemic-related 15% increase for SNAP benefits will end.Ā  The USDA said while SNAP participants will see an increase in their benefits in October, it might not be as much as anticipated.
