LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It was a packed service at a local church for a big birthday celebration.
The South Louisville Christian Church on Southern Parkway celebrated their 116th anniversary on Sunday. The church helped start dozens of new congregations in the city of Louisville, including Southeast Christian Church.
That history means many local families can trace the heritage of their faith back through the church. But Sunday was also a celebration of what's to come.
"We have an incredible history to celebrate, but today was really all about our future," Pastor Theo Dues said. "We truly believe that as great as the past has been, the best days of this church are still ahead."
Bob Russell, former pastor of Southeast Christian, also spoke at the celebration event.
