LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A recent survey found a large number of parents are turning to social media for advice.

The Michigan University poll said four out of five parents of young kids are seeking parenting advice on apps like TikTok and Facebook. Topics include nutrition, vaccinations, getting kids to sleep and more.

The survey also showed some parents feel it can be difficult to distinguish good advice from bad. That's why some pediatricians are joining social media platforms themselves.

"We can try to push back on it, and probably be unsuccessful, but we can also embrace it," said Dr. Heather Felton, a pediatrician with Norton Children's. "So that's why I'm on social media, that's why I talk to other health care providers about putting good information on social media so that it can be there for people when they go to look for it."

Doctors encourage parents to fact check the information they're getting with a trusted medical professional.
