LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- In Louisville, there's a resource providing hope and new opportunities for young adults.

The Spot is a collaboration between Goodwill and Kentuckiana Works. It's making a real difference by offering support to young people who want to continue their education, start a career, or achieve their personal goals.

For many, like 20-year-old Keynacha Talbert, this program is life-changing.

"I've been through a lot. I've been in shootouts before. It was like my whole life," Talbert said, reflecting on her tough past.

But after having a child last year, Talbert found a place that would help her turn things around.

"I just wanted to stay on track, like make sure that I'm not falling off," she said.

Talbert found The Spot, part of the Young Adult Opportunity Center, which provides free career and educational resources to young adults ages 16 to 24. Through funding from Louisville Metro government and the Department of Labor, participants are offered valuable opportunities, including paid internships and workforce development programs.

The Spot’s operations manager, Sara Stumph, describes their approach as holistic, helping young adults not only with education but also with real-world career training.

“We take a holistic approach to helping our young adults,” Stumph said. “We put them through a three- to four-week workforce development program.”

Since relocating to West Chestnut, The Spot has helped over 1,000 young adults. The goal for this year is to serve even more, with a particular focus on fields like healthcare, clean energy, and skilled trades. The program also connects participants with industry-recognized credentials and internships to get them on a career path.

Talbert, who is now working and attending classes while raising her child, appreciates the support she’s received.

“They help you with housing, court, getting your GED, they help you grow,” she said.

The Spot’s programs are making a real impact on young adults like Talbert, giving them the tools to build a better future.

"I’m not stopping. I keep going," Talbert said. "I'm still getting up every day. I'm not lying in bed. I'm not being lazy."
