LOUISVILLE, KY (WDRB) --Â Huddled together against the doors to the KFC Yum Center, thousands of teenage girls, their parents (or just their fathers) sought shelter from the rain and the afternoon thunderstorm that made them run for cover.
But it was something else that kept them moving. The chance to see British pop sensation One Direction is something that's been earmarked in the fans' minds for months. Maybe longer.
"We've been waiting a year for this concert," said Jaylin Dodson, a One Direction fan.
With shows sold out in Atlanta, Nashville, Columbus, OH and Raleigh, NC, thousands of fans drove from as far away as Mississippi, Louisiana and West Virginia for a chance to see One Direction. It marked another huge concert that filled the Yum Center.Â
"I think they're cute. That's about it. I like there music too," said Shayla Caudill, whose father drove her to concert from Eaton, Indiana, which is north of Muncie.
Vince Zeles drove his two daughters and their two friends across the Ohio River from Jeffersonville, Indiana.
"They've been planning this for a year and half. And it's been crazy every day," Zeles said, who mentioned he didn't mind spending Father's Day with his daughters. "I guess it's ok. Probably there would've been things I would've liked to have done more like a hard rock concert or something but I can handle it for them. Today's all about them."
So what it is it about this British pop super group that makes them a must-have ticket?
"You can't explain it, it's just they're amazing. And their hair is really awesome too," said Madison Perry, who traveled with her friends from Huntington, WV.
Her friend, Zoe said: "They're hair!"
Natalie Zeles and her sister, Kaitlynn, have been counting down the days on a calendar.
"It was down to 70 days. I was like 'Oh my God only 70 days left.' And then it was like 'Oh my god,'" said Zeles.
Her sister, Kaitlynn, said she couldn't pick a singular reason why she loves the group. "I don't know. They're just so talented and amazing and hot n stuff. They're amazing."
Hannah Gipson, who traveled from Louisiana, summed it up this way: "They're awesome. They sing really good. And they're hot."
The concert marked another big name act to come to KFC Yum Center since it opened in 2010.
