Thousands of PGA Championship volunteers prepare to converge on Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Golf enthusiasts far and wide came to Louisville this week in preparation of the 2024 PGA Championship.

Volunteers for the tournament, which will be held May 13-19 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, came to town to pick up their uniforms Friday at Christian Academy of Louisville.

"Just the excitement and the fact that it's here in Louisville, and I can't wait to see and meet some of the players," said Pat Manahan, who picked up his uniform Friday.

In total, more than 3,100 volunteers are expected to come from across the country. Volunteers act in many roles ranging from caddies to marshals to player transportation.

"It's just gonna be exciting time to watch the golf and the pro golfers and the crowd, of course, is always fun," Ron Pederson, another volunteer, said Friday.

The 486-acre Valhalla property sits off Shelbyville Road, just east of Interstate 265. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, it opened in 1986 and remains the No. 1-ranked course in Kentucky, according to Golf Digest.

Valhalla has also played host to many marquee events that drew national and international attention to Louisville:
