Top hat on Abraham Lincoln statue stolen at Waterfront Park in Louisville

A top hat that's part of an Abraham Lincoln statue at Waterfront Park has been stolen

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A top hat that's part of an Abraham Lincoln statue at Waterfront Park has been stolen.

Ed Hamilton Studios and Visitors Center posted, "someone stole Old Abe's Top Hat off my Lincoln statue at waterfront park in Louisville, Ky! They had to be strong and determined to pry bronze from a base, good grief!"

The Lincoln Memorial represents the 16th U.S. president's Kentucky roots. The memorial was dedicated in 2009 featuring a 12-foot statue of Lincoln seated on a rock looking out at the Ohio River.

The top hat rested below Lincoln's right shoulder. Artist Ed Hamilton sculpted the Lincoln statue.

Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Aaron Ellis said an online report was filed with police, and LMPD's First Division Detectives are investigating.
