LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A University of Kentucky housing employee was arraigned on criminal charges Tuesday after allegedly trespassing in nearly 860 residence hall suites over the holiday break.
In a news release Wednesday, UK said the employee was fired after being accused of entering the dorms and stealing numerous items.
"First and foremost, we are here to support our students, their safety and their security," UK Police Chief Joe Monroe said. "The technology now in place in new, high-tech residence halls allowed us to detect unwarranted activity much more quickly than we would have been able to do in older halls that depended upon locks and keys for entry and access."
The suspect broke into rooms in Blazer Hall, Boyd Hall, Holmes Hall and Jewell Hall, all located on the north side of UK's campus. The university is working with students to return their items, though that may be limited to "small amounts of money" stolen from suites.
The suspect is charged with burglary, trespassing and possession of a deadly weapon (brass knuckles).
