LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Water has been restored to the Galt House Hotel and other impacted businesses along 4th Street after a break on a private fire service.

The Louisville Water Company tweeted Sunday shortly before 11 a.m. that the water had been restored.

A hotel spokesperson confirmed for WDRB on Sunday morning that the hotel had been without water.

Staff at the hotel handed out water to guests during the outage.

A spokesperson for the Louisville Water Company said Sunday afternoon that the loss of water was not a result of a water main break as initially reported, but a break on a private fire service.

Officials say all fire services connect to a water main, but "there is plumbing beyond the water main to deliver water inside buildings."

That private fire service was not for the Galt House Hotel.

Louisville Water crews worked with facility managers at the hotel to identify the problem. Officials say when there is a loss of water service, it can take several hours to determine the official cause, which was the case Sunday morning.
